Laird Plastics Recognizes Environmental Recycling Stewardship
Boca Raton, FL March 31, 2015 - Laird Plastics recently recognized 133 companies for their demonstrated environmental stewardship through their recycling partnership with Laird. Landfills have been spared more than five million pounds of plastics with the help of Laird Plastics recycling program.
One of the organizations recognized was the Specialty Graphic Imaging Association (SGIA), which represents the interests of screen printing, digital imaging industry sectors and their associated supplier base. Marci Kinter, SGIA VP of Government & Business Information, stated, “Laird Plastics provided guidance and assistance to SGIA’s membership regarding the establishment of in-house recycling programs that diverted large amounts of solid waste from the landfill into the recycling stream. The leadership portrayed by Laird Plastics provided many SGIA members with the needed program to successfully achieve certification under the newly launched Sustainable Green Printing Partnership (SGP) Program.”
Laird Plastics created their North American Recycling and Environmental Business Unit in 2009, with a charter to drive plastic pounds back into domestic manufacturing, and reduce the volume of plastics that find their way to North American landfills. The program includes the recycling of acrylic, polycarbonate, polypropylene, polyethylene, ABS, PETG, HIPS and other plastic materials. According to Recycling Manager Keith Friker, the environmental arena is constantly evolving, and Laird Plastics will continue to seek new ways to add value through sustainability.
